As part of events marking the October 2020 Breast Cancer awareness month, a clinical breast screening programme was organized by the Surgery Department and Public Health Partners of the Agogo Presbyterian Hospital on the 6th of November, 2020.

The event took place at the Agogo Community Centre from the hours of 9am to 2pm. The event coincided with the Friday market day of the Agogo Township and its environs.

Volunteers for the event (in set) included the doctors, the NTD coordinator, public health specialists, Physician assistant students and interns.

43 participating men and women received counselling and breast examination. 10 participants were detected to have issues ranging from breast infections to suspected breast cancers and were appropriately referred to the hospital for further evaluation. An information van also circulated through the community and the nearby marketplace for the duration of the programme, with the education team sensitizing and creating awareness about the need to perform regular breast self-examination and to report early to the hospital with any breast abnormality detected.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the hospital management, the Medical Administrator, Nursing Administration, our volunteers, sponsors, partners and the entire Agogo community for their support in making this event a success.

It is our hope to roll out more annual events, in many more towns in the district, targeted at screening for other important surgical conditions with the aim of detecting and treating them much earlier than later.

We would be counting on the goodwill and support of all stakeholders to make this a reality as we collaborate to bring healthcare to the doorsteps of the Ashanti-Akim community.

Thank you and God richly bless you all.
